Leviticus16:33
Hebrews 10:1
Romans.3:24 |
This feast was the day to "afflict your
soul" (fast from evening of 9th to evening of 10th
(Le.23:26-32), and receive forgiveness of your sins. This was for sins not
atoned for during the course of the year (Le.16:33). [See Hebrews 10:1
"…never…make those who come to it perfect."]. This removal of sins
was only for one year (He.10:3).
The High-Priest laid his hands on the head of
a "scapegoat" (Le.16:8) and confessed over him the sins of the people.
The goat was then led away to a solitary place.
- Christ atoned for our sin (Ro.3:24;
2Co.5:18; Ga.3:13; Ti.2:14; He.9:28; 1Pe.1:19; 2:24; 3:18; 1Jn. 2:2;
Re.1:5).
- Re-gathered Israel will "look upon Him
Whom they have pierced" (Ze.12:10-13:1).
- The "scapegoat" (Le.16:8), which
was led away, pictures the bearing of Israel's sin, and taking them away.
